Our communityAbout Arlparra

Arlparra is the largest of the 16 communities that make up the Utopia Homelands. Alyawarr and Anmatyerr people live side by side on country, approximately 3500 square kilometres, 250kms out of Alice Springs.

Utopia is an Australian Aboriginal homeland that was formed in 1978.  It is one of very few communities to be formed by autonomous activism during the early days of the land rights movement.  Made up of tradition language groups, the Alyawarre and Anmatyerre have expressly repudiated any municipal establishments.  They live in traditional clan groups or outstations.

The land is also differentiated  as 5 areas created by the ancestors Alhalpere, Rreltye, Thelye, Atarrkete and Ingutanka.
